Tamagotchi On: the return of the virtual pet

To tell the truth, it never left us. More than twenty years have passed since Bandai launched world’s most famous virtual pet, but between highs and lows Tamagotchi has continued to evolve almost constantly, at least in Japan. In our part of the world, it is a long time since we talk about him, if we exclude the parenthesis of the smartphone version. Now, Tamagotchi is ready to come back in style with a brand new version called Tamagotchi On.

Tamagotchi On is the first Tamagotchi marketed in Western countries to have a colour screen, as well as new “social” features. In the past our virtual pet did nothing but eat, sleep and poo, now it can travel to other cities, go to restaurants, adopt a pet and even find a soulmate. In fact, two Tamagotchi On can connect to each other, allowing the characters to make friends, get married and have offspring.

In this new incarnation of Tamagotchi we will find all the old creatures we know from the nineties, but this time there will be many more possible evolutions. The Tamagotchi babies in fact will have characteristics inherited from both parents or even from the grandparents. This function has already been present for some time in Tamagotchi M!X, the penultimate Japanese version released in 2016 (which we had already talked about).

The new Tamagotchi On will be available in two different versions, Fairy and Magic, each with exclusive lands and characters. At the moment, Tamagotchi On is in pre-order on Amazon.com at a price of $ 59.99, with the official release date set for August 15 (no one knows if and when it will arrive in the rest of the world). In Japan, the equivalent version (called Tamagotchi Meets) dedicated to Sanrio characters has recently become available. Did you get any nostalgia either?
