A masterpiece without CGI
We are now accustomed to great computer animated movie: they’re beautiful, but sometimes you ask yourself where the feeling of “drawing coming alive” has gone. Luckily, in Japan the “old school” is still very much alive and Your Name, from this point of view is one of the most spectacular anime of these years. Whether it’s a view of the starred sky or a scene of ordinary life, each frame remains imprinted in the eye for its richness of details, the brilliant colours and the warmth it infuses to viewers. Some shots are so beautiful they should be framed!
It will not make you regret Miyazaki
Many people compared Makoto Shinkai, director and writer of Your Name, to the great Hayao Miyazaki, even if just for the huge success at the box office. Obviously, the style and the atmosphere are quite different from Studio Ghibli. On the contrary, the quality and the emotions are the same. Shinkai manages to integrate in its movie different themes and to mix many genres, from comedy to love-story, from drama to science fiction. The result looks like the amazing sky above the heads of the characters: a vivid and bright watercolour you can’t take your eyes off.
