Wish me mell

Just in time for the end of the year, Sanrio unveiled its brand new character, Wish me mell! The new series is aimed primarily at teens and twentysomethings, in practice to a generation of young people whose lives are closely linked to new forms of communication (Internet in particular). Wish me mell, in fact, aims to connect the hearts of people emphasizing good feelings, kindness and love, using social networks as the main form of communication.

Wish me mell

Merci Hills is the place where Mell lives, a shy girl who lives confined in a funny egg-shaped house. From her room, Mell writes on her website stories and daily events of her town and responds to visitors using all modern forms of communication, to get in touch with the outside world: email, blog, Twitter and Facebook.

A great news is that for the first time the protagonist of the series isn’t shown. On the official site, however, there is a button/counter open to all visitors who would like to see Mell “in person”: clicking on big button, there will be collected all requests from fans wanting to see the star. Sanrio is also planning to involve students to promote the character. It’s perhaps the first example of an original character oriented to social networks!

What do you think about Mell? Surely it is a very innovative idea to not show the character and it’s also very interesting that the series counts mainly on interactivity with users at home! We’ll see if it will work!
