Some time ago, we wrote about Show By Rock!!, the musical videogame by Sanrio with a lot of super kawaii bands fighting for rule the hit parade and their world. Months ago, it was announced that the videogame would become an anime and on April 5th the first episode of the series finally aired. We watched the first episodes for you!

Cyan Hijirikawa is a first year high school student and all she wants is to join her school music club. Unfortunately, she is so shy that she can even knock at the door of the music room! One night, after another attempt to apply for the club, Cyan is sucked inside her favourite musical videogame and she finds herself, with the resemblance of a maid lolita kitty, in Midi City, a place where music industry rules everything. Soon enough, she is noticed by Maple Arisugawa, president of the Banded Rocking Records, who asks her to join his girl band: Plasmagica. With her new friends, Cyan will not only have to find a way home, but also become famous into the competitive music world of Midi City and defeat a mysterious enemy.

That’s the basic plot, which could be the one of any musical anime. However, Show By Rock!! mixes so many different elements and absurd situations that the first episode might make you dizzy. Just know that Maple Arisugawa is an egg, that the characters are half human and half animals and that there are inserts made with 3D computer graphic with the characters in “Hello Kitty style”. Ah, there are also aliens! But don’t think that the series is for children of girls: Sanrio itself said that Show By Rock!! is intended for the typical otaku who loves anime and videogames (and that’s the first time for the Japanese brand). In fact, Plasmagica represent the four most common female “types” in anime: Cyan is the shy and cute girl, Chuchu the mature and sophisticated one, Retoree the classic tsundere and Moa the weird one.

Show By Rock!! has anyway all the elements to be enjoyed by girls as well. For starting, the character design is adorable and we are sure that cosplayers will be very happy by that. Also the 3D inserts are absolutely kawaii and really well made: just look at the ending sequence and you will want to buy all the characters toys! Obviously, there are a lot of original songs, with genres that go from Plasmagica’s j-pop to visual kei style of Shingan Crimsonz, the male band of Banded Rocking Records. If you like cheerful and silly animes, Show By Rock!! will give you each week 20 minutes of fun. Did you saw the first episodes as well? Did you like it or not? Let us know in the comments section!
