The year 2018 is not just the Year of the Dog. It is also the year of Rilakkuma, who is about to celebrate his 15th birthday: incredible but true, our favourite bear was born in 2003! In Japan, the celebrations already started in our favourite way: with food. In Tokyo and Saitama, in fact, there are two pop-up café dedicated to the inseparable friend of our lazy hero, Korilakkuma. Ready to get hungry?
According to the Chinese Horoscope, 2018 is the Year of the Dog! Officially, the new Chinese year will start on February 16th, but we want to celebrate it a bit earlier by making you know some four-legged kawaii characters you may never heard about. We have chosen 12 of them, one for each month of the year: what’s your favourite? Happy 2018 to all of you!
It’s a bit too soon to put the Christmas decoration, but it’s the right time to start thinking about the gifts. We want to give you an early present, to open the holiday season and to end the celebrations for our birthday. In collaboration with Modes4U we have chosen for you a super cute kawaii accessories set with a Christmas vibe. Ready to join the giveaway?
Yes, you’ve read it right: our beloved bear Rilakkuma will soon be protagonist of a new stop motion anime distributed by Netflix. The news was in the air for a few months, but finally there are a few more details to share, starting from the official title of the series. Are you curious? Here’s what you need to know about the screen debut of our lazy hero.
We did it with Sanrio characters, but we couldn’t avoid taking a look also to San-x catalogue. The company that gave us Rilakkuma, in fact, has nothing to envy the historical competitors when it comes to strangeness. As a matter of facts, San-x has possibly created during the years some of the best (or worst, depending of the point of view) oddities in the world of Japanese characters. Here is our top 5, or better top 6: there’s a final bonus!
In Italy, we called them “anti-stress” but now they are best known as squishies and lately they are all the rage among kawaii lovers and not only them. Probably it’s because of the adorable models from Japan, as cute as detailed. And obviously super squishy! Thanks to Modes4U we joined the squishy-mania as well, by choosing 4 of the many squishies available on the online store. Do you want to know how they look? Let’s find out!
First there were Tsum Tsums, the series of plushies by Disney produced in 2014 in Japan that became in a very short time (also thanks to a very fun game for smartphone) a real phenomemon. Even in this part of the world, the Tsum Tsum mania is slowly catching on (we are practically obsessed), even if not like in Japan, where there are always new special collections and gadgets. Obviously, the other toys brand couldn’t stay watching!
We have already talked about Kiki & Lala Cafe, the pop-up diner open until last July serving delicious dishes dedicated to Little Twin Stars. The Sanrio twins, however, were neither the first nor the last protagonists of such initiatives. Indeed, character cafes are multiplying in Tokyo!
The fact that kawaii characters are opening on the fashion world by collaborating with more or less famous brands is not new. This time, it’s the turn of Sentimental Circus, the San-x circus animals that have won our hearts since their first appearance (and the hearts of many kawaii-girls of a certain age). And the result of their first fashion collab is truly remarkable!
A walk to the mall can be a source of pleasant surprises, especially if you are face to face with faces that you did not expect to find in an Italian shop window! The credit belongs Re Sole, an italian manufacturer of linen and house textiles (that you can find for sale in many stores in Italy), which has signed a collection of pajamas dedicated to Monokuro Boo!
