Kawaii games: SUMI SUMI

Are you looking for a new simple, fun and above all kawaii smartphone game? In this case, we recommend that you download and install SUMI SUMI, the puzzle game that features San-x characters and that has much in common with one of our favourite games: Tsum Tsum (even the name is similar). If you do not know it yet, we talk a little bit about it.

The protagonists of SUMI SUMI are Sumikko Gurashi, a bizarre group of animals created by San-x in 2012. The translation of their name is something like “life in the corner” and in fact Sumikko Gurashi are rather shy types: they only feel comfortable when they stay in a corner of the room. Among the main characters are Shirokuma, a chilly polar bear, Penguin?, a penguin with identity crises, and Tonkatsu, a piece of fried pork that has been left in the plate.

To welcome us in the game is Sumikamisama, the god of Sumikko Gurashi, which shows us the game modes during the first stages of SUMI SUMI. Our goal is to delete a certain number of characters of a certain colour in a limited number of moves. As in other similar games, we can only delete groups of two or more characters (horizontally, vertically or slantwise) and we have at our disposal several bonus items to help us in the mission. The various levels are divided into areas that can be accessed by receiving some materials from friends who play SUMI SUMI.

SUMI SUMI also incorporates a game mode very familiar to those who are fond of Tsum Tsum: the ability to collect characters with special abilities to activate during a game. And here comes the cool stuff because among the characters available there are not only the Sumikko Gurashi gang but also all the other San-x characters, from Tarepanda to Rilakkuma. There are also special events that allow us to play with special versions of the characters (now you can play the Christmas stage). Unfortunately, Rilakkuma and company, as well as some bonus items, are bought with rubies, which can be obtained by paying with real money.

If you like Tsum Tsum style puzzles and cute characters, SUMI SUMI is definitely a game to try on your smartphone or tablet. It is a perfect example of a waiting room game: fast, friendly and not very demanding, with the bonus of the character collection that makes it more compelling. But watch for in-app purchases (at the beginning you’ll spend precious rubies without realizing it) and the space available in your phone memory. You can download SUMI SUMI on Google Play and the App Store. Are you already playing SUMI SUMI? Let us know if you like it!
