Sanrio Foundation: Hello Kitty brings smiles to hospitals

Sanrio company, as you may remember, is no stranger to charitable initiatives. Hello Kitty has long been an ambassador for UNICEF and since many years she is the godmother of some Japanese events to raise awareness of women and children’s social problems. In recent weeks, there was much talk about Sanrio Foundation, the new initiative by the Japanese company aimed at bringing a smile to sick children around the world.

Sanrio Foundation

The association, located right here in Italy, was founded last October and it’s chaired by Roberto Lanza, head of Global Consumer Product for Sanrio Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The aim of Sanrio Foundation is to bring joy in hospitals, allowing sick children to interact with Sanrio characters (Hello Kitty in the first place) and receive small gifts during specially arranged events.

Sanrio Foundation is particularly active in the poorest countries, providing essential products to hospitals and decorations for children’s bedrooms. Already in 2010, the organization has visited some hospitals in Italy, Romania and Ukraine also working in social activities and fundraising, while on February 10th they began a tour in a few pediatric hospitals in the UK! The visits were organized in collaboration with Giochi Preziosi, who “donated” for the occasion their top characters, Gormitis, to the Foundation.

Sanrio therefore aims to put into practice its motto, “Small Gift Big Smile”, bringing smiles and happiness to less fortunate children, and promoting love, respect and communication between people. For more information, check the website www.sanriofoundation.org.
