Review: Japanese DIY candies from Blippo.com

Last month we were contacted by the staff of Blippo.com, online store specialized in Japanese products, which let us not only to organize a giveaway with them, but also kindly sent us some products of our choice to review. Obviously, we took the opportunity to finally try some Japanese cooking toys, which we had wrote about in the past.

The parcel has arrived a few days ago, after about a month of travel because of the Christmas holidays. Please note in this regard that Blippo offers free shipping to all, regardless of what you have purchased and the destination. You can see the contents of the package below: two Kracie set to make gummy candies and a mini-cake, one set to prepare the famous Apollo chocolates and a key ring as a gift.

Recensione: dolcetti fai da te giapponesi da Blippo.com

Necessary introduction bebore telling you about our first adventure with cooking toys: I am totally incapable of manual and precision work. So, do not expect our cakes to be as beautiful as those of RRcherrypie on youtube. Those videos are very useful, however, to “translate” the instructions on the back, obviously written in Japanese. After you understand the process, you realize that the instructions (though little understandable by those who do not know the language) are very clear, detailed and precise: they tell you the exact amount of water to add, sachets and bowls are differentiated by colors and symbols, there are both “cooking” and cooling times. In practice, if you do literally everything written on the back of the package, it’s almost impossible to fail. But first things first and let’s start from the first kit we tried…

Popin’ Cookin’ DIY Oekaki Gummy Land Kit

Popin' Cookin' DIY Oekaki Gummy Land Kit

This is a kit to create a set of gummy candies using a granular “base” and other coloured and scented powders to dissolve in water. At our disposal, there are three primary colours that you can mix in special bowls to create our palette. So, just put a mold in the base powder and create colour effects and nuances using the liquids and the dropper. When you lift the cutter, the candy comes off and you can use again the base. This is a perfect set for children because it’s really easy and fun to use and it doesn’t require the use of ovens or other tools. Also, the candies are delicious!

This is the set for cake design lovers! Having to prepare a mini-cake, you will also need a microwave oven to cook the base (with a great vanilla scent) that is obtained mixing the two special powder with the right amount of water. The bowls are only two, so between a step and the other (in addition to the mixture, you have to prepare the jelly, the icing and the cream) you need to wash them with some water to remove the residues. Obviously, my cake is not pretty as the one pictured on the box, but I can be satisfied! Tip: after cooking it, put the base into the fridge for some minutes to cool it down, so it will be easier to remove it from the mold.

Finally, there’s the set to make homemade Apollo chocolates. Inside the box, there are two chocolate “syringes” to melt (you will need a bowl and hot water), the molds, a stick and a bag of coloured sugar balls. The process is so simple that you don’t need instructions: simply put the chocolate inside the molds, add the sugar balls, mix them with the stick, gently bang the mold on the table to homogenize the layers of chocolate and then put it in the fridge for 30 minutes. The result is delicious (and the molds can be reused)!

If you want to try, Blippo.com offers many sets for all tastes… and sweets and candies ready to eat as well! Thanks again to all the staff at Blippo.com for their kindness and for giving us the opportunity yo have fun with cooking toys. 🙂
