Kawaii planners 2020: our 5 favourites

That time of year has finally arrived. The period in which we begin to think about the planner for the next year, which coincides with the period in which Sanrio and San-x launch their new collection of diaries and calendars. In the face of bullet journals, our favourite planners remain the Japanese kawaii ones: already dated and in super compact format (the only flaw is that they are not very easy to find online). As every year, we went to take a look at the new selection in Sanrio and San-x online stores: here are the 5 planners (and not only) that we liked most!

Back to school in Japanese style: Disney Princess backpacks

Do you remember which satchel or backpack you were wearing on your first day of school? We talked about it just a few days ago and our talk inevitably fell on traditional Japanese backpacks, which have long been among our objects of desire. And who knows, maybe they will become one of your objects of desire after seeing these beautiful models made by Disney and dedicated to Ariel and Rapunzel.

Love at first sight: the Rilakkuma forest by Re-ment

Do you believe in love at first sight? We do, especially when it comes to Re-ment, the Japanese kawaii miniatures that sometimes we even regret taking them out of their boxes (but we do it anyway). This time our heart was conquered by the brand new series of blind-boxes dedicated to Rilakkuma in its natural environment: the forest. Will it make you fall in love too?

Things we like: Sanrio characters Zebra Mildliner markers

Maybe you already know that we are crazy for stationery. And this means that we have drawers, pencases and desks literally invaded by pens and markers. Among our favourites to write and draw there are undoubtedly the famous Mildliners, produced by the Japanese company Zebra, among the first to launch the trend of pastel coloured markers. Instagram’s most loved highlighters now arrive in Asian stores in a lovely, limited edition dedicated to Sanrio characters.

Kawaii at the movies: Toy Story 4

Believe it or not, there was a time in my life when I stopped watching cartoons. And that period more or less coincides with the release of the first two Toy Story movies. Fortunately, after the high school I came back to my senses, but it took years before I decided to watch for the first time the adventures of Woody and his friends. After a third chapter that sounded a lot like a goodbye, Toy Story 4 arrives now in movie theatres to bring us once again into the secret world of toys. And this time I didn’t waste any time before seeing the new Disney-Pixar movie: will it live up to the previous ones?

Tamagotchi On: the return of the virtual pet

To tell the truth, it never left us. More than twenty years have passed since Bandai launched world’s most famous virtual pet, but between highs and lows Tamagotchi has continued to evolve almost constantly, at least in Japan. In our part of the world, it is a long time since we talk about him, if we exclude the parenthesis of the smartphone version. Now, Tamagotchi is ready to come back in style with a brand new version called Tamagotchi On.

Let’s go to the beach with Pusheen beachwear

Summer is finally here! And that means sun and sea (or pool, for those who stay in the city). So if you are thinking of renovating your beach wardrobe with a new swimsuit and you are looking for something kawaii, we suggest you take a look at the new beachwear collection by Pusheen, the most famous cat on the web. It’s so cute that you’ll want to go to the beach even if you one of those, like myself, who prefer to stay as far away as possible from summer sun and sand!

Things we like: the new “lucky” collection by Mr. Wonderful

It is no secret that we like the lovely Mr. Wonderful accessories a lot and it’s always very hard for us to avoid compulsive buying in front of the exhibitors we find in bookstores. Especially now that a new series of limited edition items have come out, mixing together two of our favourite things: cats and Japan! In fact, Mr. Wonderful’s Lucky Collection has as its protagonist a maneki neko, the famous Japanese lucky cat.

Kawaii at the Movies: Aladdin

Back in 1992, we still were children when we left the movie theatre with heart-eyes after watching Aladdin for the first time. Almost 30 years have passed (we feel old just writing it) and in this period we have seen the animated movie so many times that we know every scene by heart… and we are certain that we are not alone! Now Disney brings us back to Agrabah, this time with protagonists in the flesh: are Arabian nights still as magical as they once were?
