Kawaii food: character cafes in Japan

We have already talked about Kiki & Lala Cafe, the pop-up diner open until last July serving delicious dishes dedicated to Little Twin Stars. The Sanrio twins, however, were neither the first nor the last protagonists of such initiatives. Indeed, character cafes are multiplying in Tokyo!

Closed the doors of Kiki & Lala Cafe, in the same premises of THE GUEST, inside the mall Parco in Shibuya, opened (until August) My Melody Cafe. Again, there were served lovely themed dishes to suit all tastes, from cakes to salads, with gifts like coasters, place mats and in some cases a cute My Melody cup (the same you can have eating at Puroland). Of course, there were also special accessories made for the occasion.

At the same time,  it was also the turn of our idol Rilakkuma, which has teamed up with Tower Records to open his own pop-up diner in Shibuya. In addition to eating sweets, cappuccinos and an inviting curry rice in the shape of a bear, customers were also able to visit a special exhibition dedicated to Rilakkuma and buy limited edition accessories of the Rilakkuma Factory line.

In July and August, vacationers who decided to enjoy the summer in Fujisawa could also have a snack (or lunch, given the amount of stuff in them) with the delicious Chara-Cre by  Marion Crepes (one of most famous creperie in Harajuku), fantastic sweet and savory crepes dedicated to Pompompurin, Kirimi-chan and Gudetama.

Last in order of time, it’s the Pompompurin Café, inaugurated on October 22nd at the Cute Cube, in Harajuku. Again, the menu is suited to please everyone, ranging from spaghetti (carbonara) or curry and ending with adorable desserts and drinks. There are plenty of gadgets as well, such as t-shirts and shopper bags.

Are you hungry now? Unfortunately we can not taste these delicacies, but probably the most talented of you in the kitchen will be inspired to create some fantastic homemade kawaii food!
